How to Build a Website with No Experience

By

Choosing a Topic

Step 1:

Before you create your site, you have to have a very structured plan for it. All web developers spend hours using white printer paper to put together each and every page. On each page, they layout where they want their menu bar to be, where they want their text to be, where they want their pictures and media to be, where they want their contact info to be, where they want each link to go, and so much more. Before you actually sit down to put together your site, get away from your computer. Retreat from your office and go somewhere quiet where you can get your thoughts straight about what you actually want from this site. This step may take an hour, or it may take a couple of weeks, depending on how complicated your site is.

Step 2:

I wouldn't actually call this a step, but it is something to think about. Many people, instead of owning their own site, want their own domain name for their own blog. This is not exactly something you will have to carefully layout like you would with a website, but you should still have an idea about what you are doing. Blogs are very simple to put together, but they require just as much maintenance as a website does.

Your Domain Name and Hosting All in One

Step 3:

Your domain name is what defines your site. If you think back to all of the websites you have been to, can you remember the name of the website? Can you at least type some of the name into Google to remember what it was? This is what goes through someone's mind when they are thinking of a site they want to go to. Think about a simple flash game website like addictinggames.com. Almost everyone who plays games online knows about this site, and if you have been to the site but you forget the domain or the name of the site, you remember generally what it was about, flash games that are addicting. Type in any of these keywords together in Google and you will find the site you are looking for. You want this to be the case for your site eventually. It will not be like this right away, but in the far future, you will be dealing with this.

Step 4:

Hosting can be expensive sometimes, and at first, if you do not have the money, you may want to get some free hosting. Personally, I like Weebly.com. The site gives you free hosting, a free domain name, and even a free website builder. Weebly gives you a WYSIWYG platform. This is translated to "What You See Is What You Get." It is a very simple drag and drop builder that allows you to simply create a blog or a website just as you designed on those white printer papers.

Monetize Your Site or Blog

Step 5:

Google Adsense is a great way to make some extra money for your efforts. After you create your site and you are generating some traffic, you will probably want to be able to make a little extra money on the side. There are stories of people making thousands of dollars a week through Google Adsense simply by just generating a couple hundred unique visitors a day. This is possible, and it is doable within a couple of months, but you have to make sure to constantly update the site or blog, post the link to your site or blog around the internet and promote your site or blog in other ways.

Good Luck with your future work!

Nice hub... Building website is much easy, Many times site builders and script installs are very useful for creating sites... But many hosting sites charge much for these... But, there are some sites like www.freesite2you.com which offers free hosting without any ads and also offers all these features for free... I personally checked them and they are fine... Why to pay much if get it free...?...!

Hope this would be useful for you all...

I had zero knowledge about Weebly. Is this an AdSense revenue sharing website? I think I heard somewhere that this is an AdSense revenue sharing website!!

Hi Suramya.K, Weebly gives you a great platform for building a website or a blog, and in return, if you do choose to post Google ads on your site, 50% of the time they will be yours and 50% of the time they will be Weebly's. Although this may not seem like an amazing deal, if your intentions for your blog or site is purely for fun or for promoting your other work, it is great. I put my site together in about an hour and I have seen a constant increase in traffic.

Also, you can check out another hub I published more directly angled at what Weebly offers. http://hubpages.com/hub/Weebly-Cheap-and-Easy-Webs

Thanks for the info Smanty, your Weebly Website - 2 cents of College is really cute and informative. But I guess, its written in the form of a blog. And why didn't you put AdSense ads there? Is it against Google AdSense terms and conditions or something else?

Currently, at the bottom of my "2 cents of college" blog on the site I have one adsense ad. On The other blogs, or pages, on the site I have a couple more adsense ads. It is definitely not against the Google Adsense terms though :)

If you do decide to make a site or a blog with Weebly, send me a link, i'm interested in how it turns out.

Weebly takes 50% of all adsense revenue, which is quite high in my opinion. Yola is another website that is very similar to Weebly.

Hi spanishtoday, I just checked out Yola and was super impressed. Their site layout looks more professional then the Weebly layout, and I am annoyed that I did not do more research before I began my website. I am actually considering switching over.

My site right now is not rotating around the google adsense revenue, so I actually want to take the adsense ads off, but a donate button and a cheaper domain name would be great. Weebly charges about $35 or so for your own domain name and I find that a little bit expensive. Yola actually is only $18 a year.

Thanks again spanishtoday, I am really looking into your suggestion.
